Red Deer, Alberta (403) 350-5990
Wapiti is the Cree/Shawnee word for the Elk, which translated means "white rump". When settlers first came to the Red Deer region it was teaming with wildlife including the Elk. The early settlers called the Elk "Red Deer", because it was similar to the Red Deer (Stag) in Europe. So really, Red Deer could have been called Wapiti, and the river the Wapiti River! Also, the Wapiti have been coming back to the area, we have spotted several on the land the past 3 years. Thus the name....Wapiti Valley Natural Beef Company.
Wapiti Valley Natural Beef Co. story and philosophy:
It all started when my father John Fuchs Sr. purchased a half section of land about 15 minutes east of Red Deer in the Red Deer River valley. He had grown up on a farm in central Alberta in the 1930’s and 40’s….with the depression hitting hard at age 14, he hit the road with his brother and started trucking. After 40 some years of trucking he had saved enough money to buy land and go back to his roots. He started a small Black Angus cow/calf operation and enjoyed working with his herd into his eighties. His passion for a calm, healthy, happy herd of black beauties was passed down to me, and this is the beginning of the story that is….
Located 15 min East of Red Deer on nearly 300 acres of Red Deer river front property; the "Wapiti Valley." 26 "beauties" graze freely in their natural habitat. Grass fed natural beef is not only better for you, it's the right way to raise animals.
You will have options to pick an animal from the herd and have it processed yourself, or have it custom cut, wrapped and delivered by us and our butcher. We will also have popular items like lean ground beef, premium steak cuts, and jalapeno-mozza smokies for separate purchase. Find a friend or 2 to share an animal. Come out and choose one you like and watch it grow, or place an order for the cuts of meat you would like and they will be filled asap.
